The New Generation Minehunter (NGM) is a disruptive minewarfare project capable of extending traditional capabilities across the spectrum of underwater operations. Thanks to its technical and operational features, the New Generation Minehunter is the most innovative Mine Countermeasures Unit in the world, reaffirming Intermarine’s role as a leading company in the sector of Mine Warfare and Underwater Domain.
Thanks to the exclusive characteristics of the hull, in composite material (FRP - Fiber Reinforced Plastic), and to the potential offered by the most modern combat system technologies — such as mine hunting sonar and multi-domain command and control systems — the vessels in the expeditionary version will be able to perform a wide spectrum of missions.
In addition to the main focus on Mine Warfare, the modern assets retain embedded features to carry out the so-called seabed surveillance operations for the control and protection of critical underwater infrastructures (i.e. oil & gas pipelines and maritime data networks) and the protection of cultural heritage and the marine environment.
With a length of 81 meters and a displacement of approximately 2,100 tonnes, the NGM, in its expeditionary version, will stand out for its ability to conduct mine countermeasure operations safely inside minefields, thanks to its high resistance and resilience to shocks generated by underwater explosions. This ensures the safety of the crew while using different types of autonomous vehicles as force multipliers and capability gap fillers.
The vessels will be equipped with a dynamic positioning system used for both operational transits and mine countermeasure operations inside minefields. The Minehunter is designed to execute advanced Mine Countermeasure and Seabed Surveillance Operations by integrating onboard organic systems and extensive use of unmanned assets such as Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and One Shoot Mine Killers (OSMKs).
The Command Bridge design is based on the innovative concept of a naval cockpit, enabling the integrated bridge console to conduct navigation and manage both the platform and combat systems.
Finally, the NGM are designed as interoperable and flexible platforms, thanks to the modular configuration of the hangar and aft deck, which can accommodate up to three ISO 20’’ standard container modules for additional assets and systems (e.g. hyperbaric chamber, logistic modules, non-organic UXV, etc.).
The most prestigious navies in the world — including those of Italy, the USA, Australia, Finland, Algeria, Malaysia, Thailand, and Nigeria — have chosen Intermarine technology for their fleet of Minehunters, thanks to the most innovative solutions worldwide in terms of operational capabilities and cutting-edge technologies in the specialized sector of mine warfare, seabed surveillance, and protection of critical underwater infrastructures.
