he “IM-FPB 44-SF” consists of two Fast Patrol Boats (FPB), “Angelo Cabrini” and “Tullio Tedeschi”, especially suitable for law enforcement duties and for patrolling missions also in blue waters, designed and built for the Italian Navy.
Wholly built in composite material, it takes full advantage of the great experience gained by Intermarine designing and building, since almost 50 years, FRP ships (mainly sophisticated Mine Countermeasure Vessels and Fast Patrol Boats).
The Cabrini Class has been carefully designed to operate at high speed, even in rough sea: the original design has been carried out with the purpose of achieving a max speed in the range of 45 knots, and the tank tests have confirmed the design predictions.
However, the configuration has been tailored, according to the Italian Navy requirements, for achieving a speed in the range of 35 knots: the boat is therefore equipped with three diesel main engines, each driving a waterjet (all of them steerable).
Two diesel generators, each of them delivering approximately 120 kW continuous, feed the electric plant.
In addition to the two diesel generators, one emergency diesel generator is installed, delivering 65 kW.
The typical mission suite of the “IM-FPB 44-SF” includes:
The aft ramp allows the quick release and recovery of a
7.23m RHIB.
Accommodations are provided for a crew of 8 persons and for an additional complement of 18 persons.
Because of the high flexibility of the Intermarine design, the “Cabrini Class” can however be outfitted with different engines, armament and electronic equipment, and also be tailored for different spaces distribution, according to the specific requirements of each and every Customer.
Low maintenance costs, excellent seaworthiness and sea-keeping, sustained high speed, are some of the major qualities of this vessel, which - for the concept of the design and for the shape of the hull - appears especially suitable for the service intended.
